This pretty cool shelf cloud rolled by Sawtell today. Earlier while I was working I heard a fair bit of thunder from in side Target.

rain made it hard to shoot lightning, I tried from inside my car however.

Heavy rain, hail and lightning have hit Broken Hill causing flooding and blackouts in some areas of the city.
So we had a bit of a storm come through Coffs last night(semptember 24) with infrequent lightning. I watched it move out to sea from Boambee Headland at Sawtell. Lightning was hard to see with so much low cloud and thick haze/fog but I got a few keepers, really only nice for the city lit clouds. I saw quite a big storm move out to sea down the coast around Port Maquarie with strobe lightning, its just that bit to far to shoot from Sawtell.

Storm Photo of the Week (Sept 12 – 19th), CornStock this Weekend!
For those who enjoy following the "Storm Photo of the Week," my apologies for missing last week's! But this should make up for it–this week's photo comes from James Betts, a photographer who said he was very concerned for his safety with the electrifying storm! I definitely agree there, lightning is a major fear of all storm chasers or photographers that attempt to capture their beauty! Thanks James for the submission!

We're only a few days away from the premiere of "Storm Chasers" on the Discovery Channel! Does anyone have plans for the premiere? Reed, Chad and I will be watching it somewhere in Kansas on Sunday! If you're around Garnett, KS on Saturday, be sure to come see Reed at the Cornstock[/url] Festival where he'll be speaking!

It was a good way to finish winter with severe storm cells exploding in many areas of SE Qld and the Wide Bay area, from around 1:20pm.
Just a couple of shots of the lightning from last night, my daughter Kendal had a go at capturing some bolts so I will post her 2 first.

That turned out really awesome Dan got to love that wide angle!!!!
It's been a good last couple of nights. This afternoon/evening was a great storm for winter, we had to wait seemingly forever for rain to clear so we could shoot some close lightning with a bright pink sunset sky, unfortunately the rain wouldn't let up until that had faded.

August 30:

Turned out a very active afternoon and early evening across a large part of northern NSW and Queensland. Some reports of small hail with accumulations in SEQ.
Been a lightning show here at McLeans Ridges near Lismore since just before 6pm. STill going now at 830pm but much less frequent and random locations.

I've been a bit slow to go through all the photos for this day – and the past 3 months actually. The highlights were blown with this lightning shot though reducing the exposure by 2 full stops in the Nikon software did allow for this result:

Same photo as Jason's with a little extra on the top and left which contributed to the over-exposure. The shutter was open for 5 and half minutes before the lightning occurred. If I recall correctly, there seemed to be a crawler from right to left which put down two CGs and some other branches.
