Tornadoes Storm Photo of the Week! (August 22 – 29)

Storm Photo of the Week! (August 22 – 29)

It's been a busy week, so I apologize for this blog entry being late….but check out TVN's latest storm photo of the week, which comes from Kane Hardie from Australia! He said it was taken on September 28, 2010 after a 3 hour wait for the "perfect" shot. I'd say it was WELL worth the wait! Supercells do occur in Australia in the opposite months of the Northern Hemisphere's season! Stay tuned for a complete summary of TVN's hurricane Irene intercept, complete with photos!

TVN is preparing to leave Norman by 22z to chase Hurricane Irene, with an initial target of Cape Fear, NC. We are chasing in the D2, and are just about to run some radar tests before departure and keeping our options open for an intercept in the Northeast as well. Hurricane Irene, currently, is a category 3 hurricane, with sustained wind speeds of 115 mph. If data allows, we will be streaming Hurricane Irene LIVE, on our live video page, as well as doing numerous video blogs in the field via Reed's fan page on Facebook. Hurricane warnings should be issued by the 5 pm (21z) update from the NHC for North Carolina. Stay tuned for more updates, on TornadoVideos.Net, as Irene makes her way up the east coast.

Re: Tornadoes outbreak 14 – 15 April 2011 : Insane footage Oklahoma, Mississippi

That is mind blowing, I watched it a few times and could not believe how close they were to being squashed by the 4X4 around the one minute mark, I would love to know what stop it from hitting them. Very fortunate family.

The Goderich, Ontario tornado was given an F-3 rating by Environment Canada and, unfortunately, killed one person–along with 37 other injuries. The Ontario government has announced that it will give "Canada's prettiest town" 5 million dollars to assist with the clean-up and rebuilding. Check out the AMAZING video someone shot, as well as other information, here.

TVN's "Storm Photo of the Week" comes from Tony Perkins, who was flying over Sioux Falls, SD on August 6th. Above, you'll notice the Northern Lights as well as lightning in the same photo, which is a truly unique experience! Congrats Tony! And congratulations on your recent engagement! If you wish to send your photos and have them considered for the "Storm Photo of the Week" — send them to TVNphotos (AT) gmail (Dot) com.

Tornadoes Tornado Video from Nebraska on Thursday! Hurricane Irene for the Gulf?

Tornado Video from Nebraska on Thursday! Hurricane Irene for the Gulf?

Andy Gabrielson and I witnessed 4 brief tornadoes last Thursday and captured these two, below, up-close! Reviewing our position, I've concluded we were about 5-6 south of Oakdale, Nebraska at 6:55 p.m. and the other about 7-8 s/se of Oakdale, NE at 7:01 p.m. The tornadoes we witnessed did very little damage and did not cause any injuries.

The National Hurricane Center expects Tropical Storm Irene to become a hurricane by the time it reaches Hispaniola. If it moves over more warmer waters and moving over Cuba and Hispaniola has little impact to it, it could be stronger than currently forecast. There is much uncertainty at this time for the track, but TVN is standing by, and ready to deploy the D2 in the eyewall, should it reach Category 3 or higher. Stay tuned! Below is a map, showing the current watches/warnings from the National Hurricane Center.
